National Institute for Museums and Public Collections is a state agency, established in 2011 by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of Poland. NIMOZ is responsible for creating and implementing national policy for museums and assisting them in their development. It also continues the work of predecessor agency, addressing the protection of movable heritage, including export licensing procedures, and maintaining a national register of stolen or illegally exported antiquities.

NIMOZ mission is to foster development and innovation in the management of museums and public collections in Poland. It is achieved by: analysing situation of the museum sector and proposing strategic solutions, granting support to museum institutions in all spheres of their activity on behalf of the Minister, devising modern scientific, management and educational programmes, amassing and popularising knowledge on museum issues , building and updating an integrated system of information about museums and collections.

The Institute supports the process of digitising museum collections in Poland. Since 2013, it has been operating as a formal Centre of Excellence for Digitisation in Museums within the framework of the long-term government programme Kultura+.

NIMOZ promotes the use of digital technologies in museums, organises training courses and coordinates work on transferring data on museum collections to digital format.
